Getting traffic to your site is the “sine qua non” of making money online. Here is a simple tip to help you get more traffic.

Go to the Technorati Top Blogs
Check out those blogs and make relevant, non-spammy comments
Find a way to link back to your site (many let you post your name/website)

I would suggest you only start doing this once your site has compelling content.

Increasing Traffic

I think it’s safe to say that waiting for Google to rank your site well to get traffic is an unpleasant experience. While Google is the biggest dog in the search engine yard currently, there are other creative ways to get traffic to your site.

A recent example of traffic creativity comes from a guy named “Calguy” on Digital Point. He recently started a site called CelebSlam which is getting over 3000 uniques a day.

His secret?

Post useful comments on high traffic sites/blogs in a similar genre
Submit your articles to Digg, Fark, etc.

Do Article Submissions Work?

It’s a question I have asked myself many times: “Do article submissions really work?” On Digital Point Forums “ltcobretti” is trying an experiment to prove if he can get many links to his site and increased (and hopefully profitable) traffic.

I found this great post over at problogger. Darren explains how he has started and nurtured a new blogging site. Definitely some good ideas. He’s also had some excellent traffic for the first few months. His explanation?

Most traffic has come from a number of links itâ€™s had on sites like Lifehacker, Engadget and Gizmodo as well as the flow on effects of being picked up on social bookmarking sites.

He’s leveraging the high traffic sites to his advantage.

On a side note: It’s been an interesting few weeks for me. I haven’t been posting much due to a much needed vacation from work and spending some time with my new fiancee. Things have settled down and I’m again in the hunt to make a profit on the internet.

Web Traffic

I’ve been reading again recently about other ebiz experiences. Regarding traffic, one ebiz “master” said the following are the best methods to build traffic:

Get a recommendation (from someone with a list)
Write ezine articles (remember to put your signature line in there)
Write an ebook you give away (remember again to have links back to your site)

Seems reasonable. Number 2 seems the easiest to do. When I finish the affiliate computer site, I’ll write some ezine articles and test the waters.

MSN beats Yahoo and Google

Amazing to me, but MSN is the first to list me when I do a search for “nextebizguy”. Congrats to Bill Gates’ Glorious Empire!

MSN: 2 Days (11/30/05)
Yahoo: Not Listed
Google: Not Listed

Another interesting note is that there has been ZERO traffic from blogger browsers. Except for myself and another ebiz buddy, no visits in over two days. The main lesson here is that blogger alone isn’t going to get you traffic.

Traffic is the life of any ebiz, ecommerce, ebusiness, etc. This site was created on 11.28.05 and is now manually submitted to yahoo and google. How long will it take for a search in either engine to show this blog? Stay tuned to find out. This should be educational for all of us.
