More on Monetizing a Blog

Seems I’m on the monetizing a blog kick again lately. Asen Kovachev wrote an outstanding blog post on how he is monetizing stuff. You don’t want to miss this one.

Free Lunch?

He mentions that one of the biggest helps was purchasing links from high PR sites. I’ve heard this before from others that high PR links were the best ways they drove traffic to their sites. Yeah, it’s going to cost you some money to do this, but it’s worth it.

Making Money Blogging

So can you make money from blogging with investing little money yourself? One guy is doing it using blogger. Here’s the formula:

1. Research a niche term
2. Start a “blogger” blog (free)
3. Post articles relating to this niche term
4. Slap some adsense on the page or other affiliate links

Sounds “easy” enough eh?

Some concerns raised are:
1. Blogger “could” delete your blog on a whim (unlikely but possible).
2. You’re writing on topics you don’t “care” about and thus it’s just a “job”.

Philosophically, each person has to decide what’s their end goal. If it’s job “satisfaction” then yes, you might not want to create multiple blogs on topics you don’t care about. For me, if you are successful at it, you could outsource the blog writing for a minimal amount of cash. People are writing on topics for 0.02 to 0.03 cents a word on Digital Point. You could turn this into a blogging empire.

Profitable Blogging

I found this great post over at problogger. Darren explains how he has started and nurtured a new blogging site. Definitely some good ideas. He’s also had some excellent traffic for the first few months. His explanation?

Most traffic has come from a number of links it’s had on sites like Lifehacker, Engadget and Gizmodo as well as the flow on effects of being picked up on social bookmarking sites.

He’s leveraging the high traffic sites to his advantage.

On a side note: It’s been an interesting few weeks for me. I haven’t been posting much due to a much needed vacation from work and spending some time with my new fiancee. Things have settled down and I’m again in the hunt to make a profit on the internet.
